What are some of your lifetime running goals?:To spend a lifetime running in wild and new places; using running to lead a healthy and productive life; and to help others discover the joy running can bring.
Do you have a claim to fame?:Only in my families eyes!
Do you have any vices?:If this were seven years ago the list would be too long, now, it's good food, Ben and Jerry's ice cream and coffee.
What makes you tick as a runner and in the real world?:The drive to push harder (maybe sometimes too hard) and to be better at what I do.
What drives you to run?:Camaraderie, competition, the feeling of accomplishment after a hard training session or a good race.
What is your favorite movie?:Currently - "Hangover" - makes you laugh out loud, and that's healthy!
Do you have any nicknames? Explain:Nope - And I'm OK with that.
What's the longest you've gone without sleep? Why?:Probably about 20 hours, crewing my buddy Hank at the 09 Wasatch 100. It would have been longer if I actually ran like I was supposed to do.
If you had to be named after one of the 50 states,
which would it be?:Idaho!
What did you have for lunch yesterday?:First, Nancy's NF Yogurt w/my homemade granola, did my workout followed by a banana and PBJ. Lunch is an odd time for me - I typically train at lunch so I eat prior to and right after.
If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head,
would you see pictures, hear words or would music be
playing?:Words - always thinking and planning the next move.
What really scares you about trail running?:Not being able to trail run.
If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?:Life Changing Decisions
Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?:I love the mountains and thought this is where I would live all my life but as the winters grow drier and drier there is not much fun to being cold with no snow. As this trend continues, I think more of the warm places. Growing up on the east coast, I feel a pull to return to the south east mountains - but not yet.
What's your worst encounter on the trail?:I didn't have the encounter but my mind was playing such games with me I had myself totally freaked out. My plan was to run the Little Wood Loop (37-40 miles deep in the backcountry). I live in bear and mountian lion country. Needing to start this run in the early morning dark (it's a 8-9 hour loop), being solo, and knowing the opening mile or so was through waist high or higher growth I just knew something would be lurking. I arrived on time (5am) but had myself so freaked I sat and waited until it got a little lighter. I eventually got started, turned up the music really loud so not to hear "it" coming and boggied through the opening mile way too fast. Total head game!
